Meghan Markle, known for her effortless sophistication, recently made a splash at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit with a subtle detail that left royal enthusiasts buzzing.
The Duchess of Sussex graced the stage in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, donning an elegant cream outfit that perfectly encapsulated her minimalist style.
The 44-year-old former Suits actress paired a flowing Gabriela Hearst silk blouse with a Brochu Walker Esme midi skirt, creating a soft yet structured look.
However, it was not her outfit that caught fans’ attention – it was her timeless custom Dior heels.
Meghan finished off her ensemble with a pair of bespoke Dior heels, the same shoes she wore for Prince Archie’s christening at Windsor Castle back in July 2019, reports the Express.
Since then, Dior has become somewhat of a wardrobe staple for Meghan – from her white outfit at Archie’s christening to the black coat dress and wide-brimmed hat she wore to Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
Meghan’s choice to don the same Dior heels six years later seems deliberate, signifying a seamless transition from her Royal past to her current California lifestyle.
Her cream-and-nude outfit at the Fortune Summit masterfully blended elegance and authority, demonstrating that for Meghan, fashion is less about showiness and more about narrative.
During the summit, Meghan spoke to Alyson Shontell, Editor-in-Chief and Chief Content Officer for Fortune, saying that despite social media’s value for brand building, she maintains a complicated relationship with Instagram.
Meghan detailed how she shields herself from online negativity, explaining, “There are certain things that I have done, just for my own self-preservation, but also that I’ve applied to the brand, and for the people that are incredibly supportive.
“I know the question can be around naysayers, but if you really see the groundswell of support that surrounds the brand and me, that’s what I feel the most, and that’s what I appreciate.
“But by design, I also recognise that a lot of those people aren’t going to my page to see negativity, and so not just protecting myself or the people that work with me, but also the supporters. So I don’t have the comment section on.”
The Duchess of Sussex then pondered how she could “build a community” without enabling “comments and exchange.”
This “challenge” gave Meghan and her social media manager a chance to think outside the box and discover innovative methods of engaging with other users while staying “authentic.”
Meghan said, “So my social media manager would send me screen grabs of different things that people were posting in their UGC [User Generated Content]. And I said, ‘Okay, what am I going to do here?'”
“And they said I can do a text overlay and respond. So, in the same way I would on my own camera roll at home, I’ll zoom in, I can scribble a little note, and send it to a friend. I’ve just started this construct where I will start writing in my handwriting, a note to users who put up content.”
Meghan added, “So I said, let’s find small and creative ways to engage the community and let them know that I’m listening, that I really see and appreciate their feedback. So I think a lot of it is just designing what’s best for you while growing the business with an intentional and authentic point of view.”
