Duchess Meghan Markle holds the reins in her relationship with Prince Harry, and a particular personality trait of hers is creating significant challenges in their professional endeavors, according to a new report.
A mere six months after their departure from Royal duties, Meghan and Harry signed an exclusive agreement with Netflix, reportedly valued at approximately $100 million.
This past August, the Sussexes renewed their partnership with the platform, albeit with a notable modification. The duo secured a “first-look deal” instead of an overall agreement, which means the streaming service can review their projects before competitors, but isn’t required to distribute them.
Multiple American media sources have indicated this represents a step down from the Sussexes’ initial arrangement, under which the streaming platform purchased exclusive distribution rights. Additionally, viewership figures for the second season of Netflix’s “With Love” dropped considerably compared to the debut season, and whether a third season will materialize remains uncertain.
At the Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit recently, Meghan discussed the revised, less lucrative arrangement, characterizing it as “such an incredible sign of the strength of our partnership.”
“My husband and I were in an overall deal with Netflix; then, not dissimilar to Higher Ground and the Obamas‘ deal, once that had come to its term, the extension of it – which was such an incredible sign of the strength of our partnership – was now being in a first-look deal,” she said. “Which is also exciting because it gives us flexibility to go to our partners first, then at the same time, shop content that might not be the right fit for Netflix but has a home somewhere else.”
However, some insiders suggest that the Royal couple are finding their venture into the entertainment industry challenging. A Hollywood source confided to Page Six that Meghan and Harry have exhausted their welcome in LA, stating: “There is not only no appetite left for them in LA, but they’ve also worn through any good will they had.” Another insider alleged that the Sussexes lack business acumen, pointing out Meghan’s supposed problematic trait. “She’s convinced she’s smarter than everyone and dismissive,” they revealed, adding, “They’re just hopeless in professional settings.”
This comes on the heels of reports that Meghan is making a comeback to acting, eight years after leaving the profession. Variety reports that she will make a cameo as herself in the Amazon MGM Studios production Close Personal Friends, which stars Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding.

An unnamed source quoted by The Sun described this as a “massive moment” for the Duchess, signifying a return to what she truly loves.
“It’s Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set,” they added. “Everyone involved is super-excited, and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement. Prince Harry is, of course, really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.”
This represents Meghan’s first acting appearance since departing Suits in November 2017. She portrayed paralegal Rachel Zane, featuring in the nine-season series from its inception.
She exited the program following her engagement to Prince Harry in 2017.
Close Personal Friends, helmed by Jason Orley, centers on an ordinary couple who develop a friendship with a famous duo during a visit to Santa Barbara, located near Meghan and Harry’s Montecito, California, residence.
