Meghan Markle has reportedly been anxious about a “damaging email leak” concerning her forthcoming Australia visit, according to claims.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are scheduled to travel Down Under next month for multiple engagements connected to their interests and professional ventures.
Among those engagements is a women-only event in Sydney, priced at £1,440 ($1,923) per person, where Meghan will participate in an on-stage interview. VIP passes for the event from April 17 to 19 are priced at 3,199 Australian dollars ($2,270) and include front-row seating at the gala dinner and a group photograph with the 44-year-old former royal.
However, an email disclosure regarding Meghan’s participation has allegedly left the Duchess “unable to sleep,” according to reports.
A source revealed to Australian magazine New Idea, “She was horrified when word got out, ahead of the official announcement, that she would be appearing at a women’s retreat in Sydney.
“She likes to be in control, and the chaotic announcement about her arrival was anything but polished.”
The source continued, “Whilst a leak about the trip isn’t the end of the world, Meghan’s losing sleep at what else could come out about her and Harry’s private dealings.”
Meghan’s participation was revealed by Gemma O’Neill, host of the Her Best Life podcast, which is organizing the event.
It is believed that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, Harry and Meghan’s children, will not accompany them on the journey.
A representative for the pair announced, “Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will visit Australia to take part in a number of private, business, and philanthropic engagements. Further details will be shared in due course.”
The decision not to bring their kids could be intended to build anticipation for their much-awaited return to the U.K., a royal expert suggests.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams proposes another reason for their children’s temporary absence from the public eye.
He speculates that Harry and Meghan might be “saving” Archie and Lilibet for a potential trip to the U.K. this summer, contingent on the renewal of the Duke’s automatic police protection.
This would mark the family’s first joint trip back to the U.K. since 2022, potentially aligning with the Invictus Games one-year countdown event in July.
Whilst Harry is anticipated to attend the promotional event in Birmingham, there has been no indication that Meghan or the children will accompany him.
Speaking to The Express U.K., Fitzwilliams stated, “My feeling is that they are ‘saving’ their children to bring to the UK once Harry gets his automatic police protection.
“I expect Meghan to accompany him in the summer, and I imagine they will bring the children in the hopes of blunting at least some of the criticism she would otherwise draw from the press and the public.”
He continued, “All of this is very carefully calculated public relations. They don’t have any particularly exciting prospects on the horizon at the moment, with Netflix ending its partnership with Meghan’s brand in a rather drastic jettison.
“It’s not clear where they’re going to go from here, but assuming Harry gets security clearance, bringing the children to the UK makes sense. They’ll undoubtedly try to mitigate the criticism of Meghan by using Archie and Lili.”
Harry has consistently stated he will only consider it safe to bring his family back to the U.K. if his battle for taxpayer-funded armed protection is successful.
The Home Office commissioned a comprehensive threat assessment into his situation last year, but the decision on whether the round-the-clock security will be reinstated is still pending.
Meanwhile, royal expert Ingrid Seward has suggested that Harry’s father, King Charles, has reached a decision about him and his daughter-in-law.
Ingrid told TalkTV, “I think they are lucky they were in the Middle East a few weeks ago and they are not there now. They are obviously trying to promote themselves, and they need to keep a high profile in order to make money.
“He’s [Charles] got plenty of other things to worry about. They do what they like up to a point. I think he has got more important things to worry about than what Harry and Meghan are doing at this moment.”
