It’s been a year since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went on their Colombia tour, which was branded “embarrassing” by experts.
Duing the visit, the couple welcomed youngsters at a school – but both seemed to be vying for attention. The duo, who stepped down as working royals in 2020, met with Vice President Francia Márquez and her husband, Rafael Yerney Pinillo, for a morning breakfast gathering in Bogota during the trip.
The couple toured the Colegio Cultura Popular school in the city, receiving a guided visit and briefing from principal Leonel Umaña Parra and student José David. During their deep discussion, a lip reader spotted a tense exchange between the pair, with Meghan seeming “strained” as she cut in. It comes after Meghan reportedly told Prince Harry to “take advantage” of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Speaking to The Mirror, professional lip reader Nicola Hickling revealed that Harry was preparing to speak when Meghan cut him off and addressed the boy first. The footage shows Harry immediately shutting his mouth and turning toward his wife, who then took charge before signaling with a nod.
“Harry is about to say something (“look”) when Meghan interrupts him and speaks to the boy,” she said. “Meghan’s eyes are closed and she clasps her hands together, it’s almost like she is straining to speak at first.”
The lip-reader claimed Meghan then said, “So, so you won an award in products, is that right?” After she finished speaking, Harry posed a question to the boy, “How serious were you when you took on this offer?”
During their school visit, Harry delighted audiences while attempting to count in Spanish and revealed information about his kids, Archie, six, and Lilibet, four. “I have young children and they’re not on social media,” he informed the gathering, according to Hickling.
In a separate interaction, as they departed the vice president’s office, Meghan issued a direct command to her husband. Hickling observed that Meghan softly whispered, “hand”, before he responded, “Here you go.”
Body language specialist Judi James highlighted Meghan’s self-assurance during the visit, which might account for her taking charge in particular discussions.

She informed The Mirror, “She looks totally in her element, almost as though this is a moment she has been waiting for all her life. Her shoulders are splayed and her elbows tucked into her torso as she carries her large designer bag in one hand and allows her royal husband to tow her along with the other.”
Meghan and Harry received an invitation to Colombia from Vice President Francia Márquez.
Colombia made history as the first South American nation to participate in Harry’s sporting competition for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans when they took part in the Düsseldorf Invictus Games in September 2023.
Márquez explained, “The conference will present a global framework for creating safer physical and virtual spaces, addressing issues such as cyberbullying, online exploitation and the impact of these threats on mental health.
“It will offer practical solutions and commitments for countries around the world. During their visit, the Duke and Duchess, as well as the Archewell Foundation, will take part in a number of activities related to this important topic.”
