Meghan Markle has been encouraged to fly to the Philippines to see her dad amid his latest health battle. The 81-year-old had to undergo life-saving surgery during which his leg was amputated, it has been claimed.
It was reported earlier this week that he had been rushed to hospital after falling seriously ill at his home in the Philippines. He then underwent a three-hour operation on Wednesday to remove his left foot and lower leg after a circulation issue turned the limb blue and black.
Giving recent updates on his dad’s condition, his son Thomas Markle Jr recently said: “It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital, and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated.”
In a poll conducted by the Express, fans were asked whether Meghan should travel from the US to the Philippines to visit her dad despite their fractured relationship.
Meghan, 44, and her father have not been on speaking terms since 2018, but Thomas has made it clear that he would love to reunite with his daughter.
The pair’s relationship became strained as Meghan felt betrayed after he staged paparazzi photos and later lied about his involvement. He also did not attend Meghan and Harry’s royal wedding due to ill health and has never met his son-in-law or his grandchildren.
Of the 2,689 people who voted, a staggering 2,336 people [87 percent] shared that Meghan should visit her dad, as opposed to the 245 people [9 percent] who have encouraged her to not make the travel.
An additional 108 people [4 percet] voted that they were unsure what Meghan should decide to do.
Thomas Jr added: “One of his doctors said the next two or three days are critical. His left leg has been removed below the knee. They were worried about infection setting in – sepsis or gangrene. The flesh was black and dying. There was no option given.
“It was either ‘we have to operate now and remove the leg or he may die. It was a life-threatening situation.”
