Meghan Markle may feel a pang of “envy” this year as she and Prince Harry are set to miss out on a significant royal event, according to an expert.
Despite the holiday season being months away, it’s reported that Christmas invitations from the royal family have already been sent out, with Meghan and Harry not anticipated to be among the invitees.
The couple, who haven’t celebrated Christmas at Sandringham since 2018, have yet to comment on the matter. However, it’s unlikely to come as a shock to them. The news comes after Prince William made a thinly veiled dig at his brother.
While they may not mind spending the holiday in the U.S., there’s speculation that one aspect could annoy Meghan. Speaking to The Express, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams suggested Meghan might “envy” the global attention the royal family will garner on Christmas Day.
He stated, “Meghan, after a decidedly lacklustre year, will certainly envy the worldwide publicity the monarch’s Christmas message and the walk to St Mary Magdalene on Christmas morning will invariably receive.”
Their children, six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet, have yet to experience a holiday season in the U.K.
Despite Meghan’s numerous criticisms of royal life since she and Harry stepped back from their duties in 2020, it’s believed that she did enjoy spending Christmas with the royal family.
In the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex reminisced about her first Christmas with the royals in 2017, “I remember so vividly the first Christmas at Sandringham, calling my mom, and she’s like ‘How’s it going?’ and I said ‘Oh my gosh it’s amazing’.
“It’s just like a big family like I always wanted. And there was just this constant movement and energy and fun.”
