Following their previous heated verbal clashes, Meghan Markle responded sharply to Emily Chang’s question about US President Donald Trump.
The 44-year-old’s interview for The Circuit YouTube show was broadcast on Tuesday, coinciding with the release of her Netflix series’ second season.
Throughout the 46-minute segment, Emily pressed Meghan regarding the recent clashes between residents and ICE officers, following the implementation of stringent immigration policies.
The former working Royal hails from Los Angeles and currently lives in Montecito alongside Prince Harry and their two children – Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.
Referencing Meghan’s prior appearance on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore in 2016, Emily questioned her about the “choice words” she had used concerning President Trump during that period.
“I think if there’s anything I wanted to say or that felt necessary to say, then I would say it, but that’s not where I’m at right now. I haven’t said anything [political] since 2016, which was well before I met my husband, too.”
The podcast host then asked, “We are living in such a charged time, and it seems like no one is speaking up because it’s scary to speak up. What do you think of the direction our country is going in?”
In response, Meghan said, “I think right now it’s a really interesting time for the entire world. I just hope people are able to maintain the values that they feel are important to them, feel safe, and remember our humanity with each other through all of it.
“However polarised the world can feel, you just go back to the fact that we are all human beings and try to find a way to connect rather than divide.”
