Meghan Markle is sharing how her family is gearing up for Thanksgiving at their Montecito home. In its latest newsletter, the Duchess of Sussex’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, revealed that she’s been harvesting one of her favorite herbs, sage, alongside Prince Harry, their kids—6-year-old Archie and 4-year-old Lilibet—and their two dogs, Pula and Mia.
“When it comes to our founder’s favorites, the delicate, herbaceous flavor of sage ranks high on the list,” the newsletter read, per People. “Why, you ask? Well, those photos you’ve seen this year on our Instagram of Meghan walking through what seems like lavender, with its gorgeous purple hue, actually share the beauty of flowering sage (Fun fact: the varietal is called Santa Barbara).”
The newsletter continued, “Those strolls, with Archie and Lili running in tow, her husband checking on the bees, Pula chasing the ball with Mia trying to keep up—those were the sun-drenched moments that made an everyday walk something a bit more magical. And that sage, that purple, that scent around the garden, was always there in the background.” (Meghan has shared a handful of snapshots showcasing her garden, including an Instagram post featuring Archie and Lilibet in March.)
The herb helped inspire Meghan’s latest product, Sage Honey, which is part of As Ever’s holiday collection and available to purchase for $32. “Here we are: a stunning sage honey, aromatic and earthy, epicurean in its depth of flavor and elegant simplicity, inspired by the treats she enjoys at her home with her family,” the newsletter read. It recommended different purposes for the honey, adding that it can be used “to beautifully dress your Thanksgiving feast—either on the bird or on the vegetables. Or in a vinaigrette. Or as a spoonful in your tea.”
According to the newsletter, Meghan “imagined what it would taste like to have a sage honey drizzled on her Thanksgiving turkey,” which led to the product. As Ever’s website features a “Tips for Enjoyment” section, which recommends mixing the sage honey “with a dash of cooking broth from the bird” and a pinch of salt to create a glaze. On Tuesday, the brand shared an Instagram video of Meghan brushing her mixture on a turkey.
Last year, Meghan opened up to Marie Claire about the joy of celebrating the holiday season with her kids, saying, “At first, I think as a mom with children you’re just enjoying having them there, but they’re not understanding everything that’s happening yet. But now we’re at the age where I just can’t wait to see it through their lens every year.” She added that their Thanksgiving festivities are “always pretty low-key.”
Meghan also shared that she enjoys living near her mom, Doria Ragland, and having close friends over for the holiday, revealing that she hosted Gloria Steinem one year.
“I was thinking about, in the past few years of having Thanksgiving here, like many of us, I think you always make sure there’s room at the table for your friends who don’t have family, which is really key,” she said.
She added, “We’re always making sure we have something fun to do. Like any other family, you spend time having a great meal, and then what do you do? Play games, all the same stuff, someone brings a guitar—fun.”
