Dogs and other pets have a great sense of hearing, which is one reason why they dislike fireworks.

Families across Mississippi won’t have to wait until July 4 to celebrate. The holiday falls on a Saturday in 2026, and many people will get a three-day weekend to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday.

Magnolia State communities will celebrate Independence Day with local events that include music, food, games and fireworks shows.

Many are taking place in the week leading up to the holiday. You can enjoy several patriotic celebrations with the right plan.

Find events across Mississippi to celebrate with friends and family. They are listed in order by start time, with fireworks showtimes provided separately when available.

Hot air balloons light up Ridgeland sky

Ridgeland partners with Mississippi Championship Hot Air Balloon Fest to host the annual Celebrate America Balloon Glow. More than 15 hot air balloons will light up and take to the evening skies. There will be live music, headlined by country singer George Birge, and food.

Mantachie plans music and kids activities

Mantachie welcomes families for a fireworks show. Food trucks open at 6 p.m., and there will be waterslides for kids. Spunk Monkees will play live music from 7-9 p.m.

Guntown sets daylong lineup with giant flag

Guntown plans a full day of family fun with waterslides from 2-8 p.m., along with other events. At 4:45, a 30-foot by 60-foot American flag will be unfurled while people sing the national anthem. Live music starts at 5 p.m. There will be food trucks, vendors and more.

  • When: 2-9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27
  • Where: Guntown City Park
  • Admission: Free
  • Fireworks start: 9:30 p.m.

Long Beach plans festival parade and block party

Long Beach knows how to party. The 4th of July Jubilee events start with a festival at 9 a.m. and a parade at 6 p.m. The block party runs from 7-11 p.m.

  • When: 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 27
  • Where: Downtown Long Beach
  • Admission: Free
  • Fireworks start: around 8:45 p.m.

Houston Homecoming features parade and tribute

The Houston Homecoming starts with a kids parade at 5:30 p.m., followed by a recognition of veterans at 6:15 p.m. A free concert starts at 7 p.m. with live music from 2 Piece and a Biscuit and Brassfield. The night will end with a fireworks show.

Natchez marks two days of July 4 festivities

Ready to celebrate America’s birthday? Natchez is hosting two days of family fun.

On July 3, Epic Funk Brass Band will lead the second line parade at 4:30 p.m. World War II veteran Capt. Jack Kerwin is grand marshal. A family festival runs from 4:30 p.m. until dark at Bandstand on the Bluff. Live music starts at 5 p.m.

Watch fireworks over the Mississippi River from the Natchez Bluff on the 4th of July. The Live at Five event kicks off with live music at 5 p.m., including Cha Cha Boo and The Remedy. The evening will include games for all ages.

Olive Branch pairs Freedom Fest with Christian music festival

The city of Olive Branch will have its Freedom Fest fireworks show in the city park. Performers include Jamie MacDonald. The event syncs up with Light the Way, the largest free Christian music fest in north Mississippi.

Nettleton kicks off parade and park activities

Nettleton will hold its annual Independence Day parade. It starts at 6 p.m. Friday, July 3. The route ends at Roy Black Park, where people can enjoy games, food trucks and entertainment. There’s a watermelon contest at 7:30 p.m., sponsored by Piggly Wiggly. The Best-Dressed Contest is at 7:30 p.m. The fireworks show will start at dark.

  • Where: Roy Black Park
  • Admission: Free

Mississippi Mud Monsters plan 2 nights of fireworks

The Mississippi Mud Monsters have home games against the Florence Y’alls at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 3 and a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 4. They’re planning a fireworks extravaganza both nights after the games. Every Friday is a Fireworks Friday, and they’ll honor Independence Day both nights. If you’re near Trustmark Park in Jackson, be ready for the show.

  • When: 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 3, and 5 p.m. Saturday, July 4
  • Where: Trustmark Park
  • Admission: Free

Baldwyn hosts music and fireworks show

Baldwyn has an evening of fun planned for its Independence Day celebration. The event includes food trucks, live music and kids’ activities.

  • When: 7 p.m. Friday, July 3
  • Where: Latimer Park
  • Admission: Free
  • Fireworks start: 8:30 p.m.

Ocean Springs plans beachside music and fireworks

Ocean Springs plans a festival at Front Beach. Bring blankets and lawn chairs for live music that starts at 7 p.m. There will be food vendors at Fort Maurepas, and fireworks will end the evening.

  • Where: Front Beach
  • Admission: Free
  • Fireworks start: 9 p.m.

Diamondhead parties with music, food, fireworks

The city of Diamondhead will celebrate with a block party featuring live music and fireworks. Food trucks will be selling meals. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.

  • Admission: Free
  • Fireworks start: 9:30 p.m.

D’Lo Water Park parties with full day on the water

D’Lo Water Park kicks off its American 250 celebration at 7 a.m. with early floats, kayaks and canoe outings, and it runs into the night. The night float starts at 5 p.m. Vintage 601 Band will play from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Check out food trucks for food and drink options. Fireworks are at dusk.

Oxford celebrates with children’s parade, fireworks

The community can enjoy events throughout the day at Oxford. The fun starts at 8:30 a.m. with a children’s parade at City Hall. There will be a Freedom Square dedication at 10 a.m. at the Lafayette County Courthouse, and the evening will end with a fireworks show.

  • Where: MTrade Park
  • Admission: Free
  • Fireworks start: 9 p.m.

Pontotoc schedules parade, music and talent show

Pontotoc will have live music, food and fireworks in the evening. The fun for the day starts at 10 a.m. with a patriotic parade. The Food Truck Frenzy will be noon to 10 p.m. A talent show starts at 2 p.m. Meet the mayor and get free cupcakes, starting at 5 p.m. Nick Perkins, a country artist and Elvis tribute performer, starts at 7 p.m.

  • Fireworks start: 9 p.m.

Yazoo City adds giveaways to Freedom Festival

Freedom Festival kicks off at 11 a.m., and events for family fun and live music run all day until a fireworks show at night. There will be free clothing and groceries for families at this event sponsored by Inspired Heights Ministries.

  • When: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 4
  • Where: Wardell Leach Recreation Sports Complex, 500 W. 15th St., Yazoo City
  • Admission: Free

Tupelo plans 40th annual All America City Family Picnic

Tupelo is honoring the melting pot of America for the country’s 250th birthday. Look for all kinds of food trucks and vendors. The Kids Patriotic Parade starts at 4 p.m., followed by Kid’s Music Hour hosted by The Blind Eye DJ. Live music starts at 6:15 p.m. with Silas Caldwell, followed by Mighty McFly. Fireworks will cap the night.

  • When: 4-9 p.m. Saturday, July 4
  • Where: Ballard Park, 655 Rutherford Road, Tupelo
  • Admission: Free
  • Fireworks start: 9 p.m.

Meridian books major acts for July 4 concert

The city of Meridian will have an evening of live music by The Voice winner Todd Tilghman, American Idol winner Jamal Roberts, country artist Daniel Houze and blues legend Bobby Rush. There will be fireworks over the lake. The kid zone will run from 3-5 p.m. on the lawn of City Hall. Parade lineup starts at 4, followed by the parade at 5, an America 250 Ceremony at 6 p.m. and a concert at 6:30 p.m.

  • Fireworks start: 10 p.m.

Sherman lines up parade, music and Elvis tribute

Sherman will hold its community parade in the afternoon, followed by live music in the park. The event will have an Elvis impersonator and music by Chris Williams and Hwy 29 Band.

  • Where: Sherman Park
  • Admission: Free
  • Fireworks start: 9 p.m.

Southaven hosts large-scale fireworks show

The annual Southaven Fireworks Extravaganza will have food vendors. Live music from Saddle Up and Kevin & Bethany Paige starts at 7 p.m.

  • Admission: Free
  • Fireworks start: 9:15 p.m.

Mississippi Aquarium offers after-hours fun

The Mississippi Aquarium is offering a special after-hours event with Fins, Fireworks and Frosty Beers. The fun features a pop-up beer garden on the grounds and access to local food trucks. (Meal costs aren’t included.) At the end of the night, participants have exclusive access to the west lawn to watch the city of Gulfport’s fireworks display, which will be shot from the jetty on the east side of the harbor.

Vicksburg celebrates America 250 with music, fireworks

Vicksburg will offer live music from The Tip Tops and a stellar fireworks show.

  • Where: Historic Downtown Vicksburg on Washington Street between Jackson and Grove streets
  • Admission: Free
  • Fireworks start: 9 p.m.

Gulfport plans to Ignite the Night

Gulfport will have a fireworks show over the sound. Moses Jetty will close at 6 a.m.

Pascagoula has land and boat viewing spots

Pascagoula’s 4th of July fireworks show will be visible from land and by boat. Find the perfect spot and tune your radio to Magic 93.7 for synchronized music.
