Frank Sinatra’s daughter Nancy says she’ll never “fully get over the loss of” her father.
On Monday, May 14, the anniversary of the Fly Me to the Moon singer’s death, the 85-year-old singer took to X with a heartfelt tribute to her father. She began, “Twenty-eight years ago, the world lost Frank Sinatra, and I lost my dad. I don’t think I’ll ever fully get over the loss of him, or the fact that my siblings and I were disregarded and not given a chance to say goodbye.”
After his other daughter, Tina, shared Frank’s haunting three-word deathbed apology, Nancy described her dad as “one of the most extraordinary men I ever had the privilege to know” and what memories have come up on the “sad” occasion.
“I find myself thinking about all he accomplished, the joy he brought to so many people, and the love he gave to those closest to him,” she said. “The world could certainly use his warmth, kindness, grace, and wonderful sense of humor today.”
Nancy shared that her biggest regret is that Frank didn’t get a chance to meet his great-grandchildren. She mentioned, “Oh! How they would have loved each other.”
Although his death anniversary has brought her somberness, she is happy her father’s memory lives on. She wrote, “Twenty-eight years later, the world still sings along with him. Young people continue discovering him for the first time, while those who loved him from the beginning still treasure the man and his music.
“He left behind a body of work that continues to bring people comfort, joy, romance, and strength.”
Nancy lastly revealed what the singer was afraid would happen after he passed.
“Dad was always concerned that his work would be forgotten,” she mentioned. “So he would be absolutely thrilled to know that his legacy lives on across generations, not only through his music, but in the hearts and on the playlists of millions of people around the world.
“Frank Sinatra is eternal. And I still miss my Daddy. I love you, Poppa,” Nancy concluded.
On May 14, 1998, the Grammy Award-winning singer died at 82 years old of a severe heart attack.
Along with bringing to life memorable hits like That’s Life and Somethin’ Stupid, he also welcomed three children during his lifetime: Nancy, Frank Jr., and Christina.
All of his kids came from his first marriage to Nancy Barbato. Their 12-year marriage ended in 1951 after Frank began meeting and dating actress Ava Gardner.
Sinatra married Ana within a few days of the finalization of his divorce.
He also tied the knot to Mia Farrow and Barbara Blakeley, with whom he was married for 22 years up until his death.
