Now here is an idea we can get on board with. Plans are afoot to bring a new cafe and wine bar to a prominent downtown Leesburg corner – with a special nod to music enthusiasts.
The Record Press is coming to 29 South King Street. That’s right at the main corner of South King and Loudoun Street.
The Record Press is being touted as both a cafe and a music listening room specializing in coffee, wine, and vinyl. Vinyl, of course, meaning music played on actual records versus more modern digital technologies.
According to the cafe’s team, the space will be a cafe during the day, and a vinyl listening room by night.
“We might play anything from Frank Sinatra to Led Zepplin to Rosalía … and even Michael Jackson,” one of the owners told The Burn. “The biggest thing about this is to slow down and listen to music the way the artist wanted you to hear to it.”
The Record Press will be equipped with a Hi-Fi sound system and have a large collection of fine record pressings. Albums will be played front and back in their entirety and the schedule of albums will be released in advance.
The music sessions will be ticketed – meaning you purchase tickets for specific album or albums you want to hear and this gets you a seat in the listening room.
The concept is based on Japanese “kissa,” a type of music cafe that became popular after World War II.
Kissa are spaces where the focus is on really listening to music versus just having it on in the background. A typical kissa would feature a high-quality stereo system, a large collection of records, dim lighting, and coffee or drinks.
Readers of The Burn knew that something new was coming to this spot.

Previously the corner space was home to the Leesburg Gourmet shop. When the Leesburg Gourmet closed in March, the owner revealed that a new investment group was taking over the space and would be bringing in a new concept. Now we know it’s a vinyl listening room.
No official opening date for The Record Press has been announced yet, but the cafe’s team is hoping to be ready sometime later this spring.
As the cafe’s promotions read: “The needle drops soon.”
