Meghan Markle has shared two new photographs to mark Prince Archie’s seventh birthday today. The first picture shows Meghan holding an adorable picture of a newborn Archie sleeping on Prince Harry’s lap. The second snap is a picture of Archie with Princess Lilibet on a beach, likely near to their home in California.
The caption read: “7 years later…happy birthday to our sweet boy [white-heart emoji].”
Prince Archie Harrison was born at the Portland Hospital in London on May 6, 2019, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex lived in the UK. While his birth was kept as secretive as possible, the couple presented their newborn son to the world during a photocall with selected journalists and photographers in St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle two days after his birth.
Despite largely keeping Archie and his sister, Princess Lilibet, out of the spotlight, Meghan has shared frequent pictures on Instagram, though they are often from the backs of their heads or show their faces obscured by emojis.
In 2023, Prince Harry and Meghan made the surprising announcement that they did not want to deny the children of their “birthright” and chose to have their children styled as a Prince and a Princess, despite stepping back from their official roles three years earlier.
They waited to make this decision because Archie and Lilibet only became entitled to hold the titles the year before, when their grandfather acceded to the throne. The reason behind this stems from King George V’s 1917 Letters Patent, which declared that only the monarch’s children, male-line grandchildren, and the eldest son of the Prince of Wales are entitled to princely status.
Even though Archie and Lilibet have spent very little time in the UK, Harry previously expressed enthusiasm about his family’s future.
During an interview on his way to Ukraine after he spent time in the UK last September, Harry told The Guardian: “Yes, I have enjoyed the week. I have always loved the UK, and I always will love the UK. It’s been good to reconnect with the causes I am passionate about. I have been able to spend some time with people that I have known for so long. It is hard to do it from far away.”
The youngsters last visited the UK to celebrate the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. Asked if he would bring his children to the UK, Harry said: “Yes I would. This week has definitely brought that closer.”
