Noah Kahan has joined Zach Sang on his podcast, the Zach Sang Show, earlier this week, where he spoke candidly about reconnecting with his music through his latest studio album, The Great Divide, which comes out this Friday, 24th April, 2026.

Kahan has to be one of the most vulnerable writers that music – of all genres – has had the pleasure of knowing. His ability to explore his mind and resonate with fans through his songs is incomparable. However, with such depth to his music, Kahan felt a distance growing between his passion and his words and told Sang about how he thought about giving it all up.

“It was a hugely cathartic experience,” shares Kahan, “I had been so stressed and so lost and was literally thinking about quitting and going to work at my golf course as a divot repair person.”

Sang and Kahan laugh at the idea, but Kahan reinforced that he genuinely considered it and wondered if they’d let him play there in the afternoon after his shift – play golf, that is, not music.

With an undeniable truth at the core of everything he does, Kahan felt that his love for his art had wavered and couldn’t continue to generate songs just because.

And yet, the ‘Stick Season’ songwriter dug deep through his journey and can now listen to the new project fondly, telling Sang that he feels “continued joy” knowing he got through that experience.

While Kahan toured ‘Stick Season’ for three years, he explained to Sang that he felt an increasing disconnect with the songs, playing them more passively each time as his “relationship with the songs changed”. Now, it seems The Great Divide has reignited Kahan in a way that brings him closer to his truth – and, therefore, to his fans.

“The Great Divide for me, I’m so proud of, because not only did it come out of a time of great pressure and expectation,” Kahan shared, “I felt like I was fully able to say what I wanted to say in the songs.”

It’s hard to imagine an album that bares more depth than anything Kahan has previously released, but we have no doubt that The Great Divide will hit us like a train. Tissues at the ready, we are sat, waiting for April 24th.
