North Carolina Teens Try To Make It Big In Trailer For Prime Video’s Latest YA Drama; Premiere Date & New Music From Series’ Band Revealed

Prime Video is debuting its new YA series The Runarounds next month.

The series, from Outer Banks creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, will debut with all eight episodes on September 1, the streamer revealed Thursday.

The Runarounds follows a group of recent high school graduates from Wilmington, North Carolina, who come together the summer after graduation to form a rock band, united by their shared love of music and near-impossible dream of stardom.

Over the course of one unforgettable summer, they throw themselves into the pursuit of their big break—falling in love, getting into trouble, and building the kind of bonds that feel like family along the way. With original music, romantic entanglements, and the raw highs and lows of coming-of-age, The Runarounds captures the rush of risking everything at the edge of adulthood to chase your dreams.

A trailer released Thursday with the premiere date announcement gives a taste of what to expect from the latest project to join Prime Video’s growing YA slate. The video also debuts the original song “Funny How The Universe Works,” which is performed by the fictional band at the center of the show.

The band’s first two singles, “Funny How The Universe Works” and “Senior Year,” are also now available to stream ahead of the premiere. The songs are part of an entire album to coincide with the show’s release.

While the band in The Runarounds isn’t real, the characters are played by real-life musicians: William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher. The rest of the cast includes Lilah Pate, Maximo Salas, Kelley Pereira, Marley Aliah, Mark Wystrach, Brooklyn Decker, Hayes MacArthur, and Shea Pritchard.

The Runarounds is executive produced by Jonas Pate, Joon Yun, David Wilcox, Josh Pate, Shannon Burke, Scott Lambert, and Lisa Mae Fincannon, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance Television.
