Autumn jazz and wine festivals will bring out the crowds in OC and Rehoboth Beach.
While last weekend’s stormy weather scuttled many events at the beach, thousands of revelers are expected to return this week for annual festivals with live music.
Great wine and live music combine for Fager’s Island fest
In Ocean City, Fager’s Island will no doubt be packed when it hosts its annual Fall Wine Fest this weekend. This year’s edition will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, with music by the disco group Groovalicious ($80). Ages 21 and up only will be admitted.

Fager’s has also placed tickets on sale for its pair of Shell Shocked oyster eats next month, for which families can bring their children. The first one is set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, and will include performances by two groups. Lower Case Blues and Sweet Leda will play separate sets before joining together for a sure-to-be-rollicking jam session ($80).
The second Shell Shocked will be noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 and include a full-band show by local rock favorite Opposite Directions (also $80).

Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz fest has Sheila E., more hot events all around
In Rehoboth Beach, a host of bars, restaurants and concert spots are set to jazz it up. The 36th annual Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz Festival will take place Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 16-19. It will kick off with the return of legendary singer-percussionist Sheila E. at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 ($135 to $165). Organizers will also present her with their annual Artist of the Year award during her show.
Official jazz festival events featuring top smooth jazz acts will take place at eight different venues in Rehoboth, Lewes and Dewey. Many other businesses will also get into the act by showcasing local and regional musicians.
Saxophonist Art Sherrod Jr. will be among the performers at the 36th annual Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz Festival this weekend. He will play the jazz brunch at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19.
One of the most popular annual events is the Sunday morning jazz brunch; it is scheduled for the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach on Oct. 19. The buffet begins at 10 a.m., and the music kicks off at 11 a.m. with musicians Chris “Big Dog” Davis, Art Sherrod Jr., and Althea Rene ($89, $199).

True Blue Jazz keeps it traditional in Rehoboth Beach, Lewes
A similar yet unrelated festival from a different promoter is also taking place this week in Rehoboth and Lewes. The 13th annual True Blue Jazz event runs Wednesday through Sunday, Oct. 15-19 at assorted venues, and has more of a focus on traditional jazz.
Most of the concerts will take place in the ballroom at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel in downtown Rehoboth and at the Nassau Valley Vineyard in Lewes. There will also be the eighth annual fundraiser at the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Firehouse on Rehoboth Avenue from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. The six-hour event will feature various horn-propelled big bands, and proceeds will go right back to the firehouse ($35).
