WAYNESVILLE, Ohio — The Ohio Renaissance Festival is attended by hundreds of thousands every year, those looking to be transported back to a time of knights, jousting and — of course — giant turkey legs.

The festival has received some high praise in the USA Today’s 10 Best Renaissance Fairs ranking, landing the number one spot on the list in the U.S.

“We are incredibly honored and grateful to our fans, performers, artisans, and staff who helped make this possible,” said festival organizers in a press release Thursday. “Being named the #1 Renaissance Faire in the country by USA TODAY readers is a testament to the passion of the community that brings the village to life each season.”

The full ranking was as follows:

  1. Ohio Renaissance Festival in Waynesville, Ohio
  2. Sherwood Forest Faire in McDade, Texas
  3. Maryland Renaissance Festival in Annapolis, Maryland
  4. Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in Manheim, Pennsylvania
  5. Texas Renaissance Festival in Todd Mission, Texas
  6. Arizona Renaissance Festival in Gold Canyon, Arizona
  7. Carolina Renaissance Festival in Huntersville, North Carolina
  8. King Richard’s Faire in Carver, Massachusetts
  9. New Jersey Renaissance Faire in Columbus, New Jersey
  10. Minnesota Renaissance Festival in Shakopee, Minnesota

There’s some time still to wait before the festival returns. It will be open to the public from Sept. 5 through Nov. 1 this year, with various themed weekends including pirates, fantasy, Viking and more.
