George Clooney has revealed he was once shouted at by Frank Sinatra while he was young and trying to break into Hollywood.
The Oceans 11 star said he wears it as a badge of pride after sharing that the famous singer grew angry with him over a boycott George was leading at the time. The actor opened up about brushing shoulders with the rich and famous as a young man while on the red carpet for the premiere of newest movie Jay Kelly in Los Angeles.
Speaking to People, he shared how he worked as a driver for his aunt, the famous singer Rosemary Clooney, revealing that he ended up driving famous artists around.

Among the stars were Tony Bennet, US singer who passed away in 2023, and Frank Sinatra, who Clooney said “yelled” at him after a protest about press freedom.
“I remember he was mad at me once because I led this boycott about […] some press freedoms, and he called me because people thought he was sick and there were helicopters flying over his [home], and he called me going, ‘It’s not working what you’re doing!’”
“But he was great,” he continued, adding, “I got yelled at by Frank Sinatra!”
The 64-year-old actor said he hadn’t known his aunt Rosemary well as a child because he lived across the country in Kentucky. “She was the Hollywood aunt,” he said.
“So I came out to make a living and I was her driver. And I got to drive [her] and Tony Bennett, and all of these really wonderful singers around for a year,” he added.
He added that the job gave him “a really good life lesson” in handling success and failure and he felt “very lucky” to have gotten that lesson so early on.
Jay Kelly will be released in movie theatres next month and sees Clooney star in the titular role of the famed movie actor as Jay and devoted manager Ron (Adam Sandler) journeying through Europe. When Jay is honored with a lifetime achievement award, they set off on their trip, only to learn it is impossible to fully out run your demons.
George previously explained how he wanted his comedic co-star Adam Sandler to be taken more seriously on set, and even stopping the crew from using his nickname ‘Sandman’. He explained: “You get treated the way you treat yourself.
“This was a different kind of role for Adam, and I wanted to make sure that he wasn’t making fun of his incredible talent. He likes to just deflect and I was like, ‘You know what, dude, you’re really good in this film and you’re a really good actor and let’s not just make jokes.’”
Sandler joked: “I still call myself the Sandman; he can’t stop me.” The actor admitted that he did appreciate the effort: “He just is very protective over me. He’s a really nice guy.”
