A major decision by Prince William and Princess Kate surrounding their son Prince George indicates a “quiet royal revolution” has begun. Earlier this month senior royals attended the Festival of Remembrance to remember and highlight the work of servicemen and women of the past and present. Among those senior royals were the likes of King Charles and Princess Kate, but also William’s eldest son Prince George.
George, now 12, has been attending more and more royal events and was given the opportunity to appear at the Festival, with his father absent as he travelled back from Brazil. Commenting on George, royal author Robert Jobson says the way George acted at during the celebrations was a sign of how the Firm was changing.
Writing in Hello!, he remarked: “Meanwhile, George observes. His public appearances are few but deliberate – a page of honour at the coronation, now a poised presence for Remembrance. He learns by watching: respect, patience, composure.
“This is the quiet royal revolution. A smaller monarchy, but greater in purpose. Less distant, more human. Relevance and relatability sustains the Crown.
“The King remains its moral centre – wise, reflective, steadfast through his own health battles. His greatest success may yet be this: preparing a son and daughter-in-law capable of leading both with heart and head.”
Commenting on how the new era of the Royal Family had already begun at the Festival of Remembrance, Robert added: “When the national anthem ended at the Festival of Remebrance, Prince George stood beside his mother, glancing towards his grandfather…For now the King reigns with composure.
“But the rhythm of the future is already playing – in the steady hands of his son and daughter-in-law and the clear, bright voice of his grandson. A new royal era has begun.”
This isn’t the first time George’s increasing number of public appearances has been discussed, with royal expert Richard Eden also discussing his presence.
Richard, the Mail’s diary editor, said: “With the former Prince Andrew banished from royal life and Prince Harry and Meghan across the Atlantic in America, there’s increasingly space for a new member of the Royal Family to come forward. What we are seeing now is a new royal in training, Prince George.
“At the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, we saw his mother, Catherine, gently leading the way and really showing how Prince George could handle public engagements in the future.
“It’s an event of remembrance, and it’s one which is very close to hearts of the Royal Family, also one which Prince George is very interested in.”
As well as the Festival of Remembrance, George also attended an event at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
