Prince Harry is said to be feeling the sting of royal “silence” as he celebrated his wedding anniversary to Meghan Markle.
The couple, who marked eight years of marriage on May 19, celebrated with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, as seen in videos shared on Meghan’s Instagram story. However, one element of their special day was noticeably missing: a message from the royal family.
Rob Shuter, who previously worked for Princess Michael of Kent, shared insight into why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were reportedly met with silence from the royal family on their anniversary. He shared his remarks on his Substack, “Naughty but Nice.”
Shuter wrote, “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle presented a picture-perfect united front for their eighth wedding anniversary. But behind palace walls, the silence from the royal family was deafening.”
“Sources tell Naughty But Nice that no senior royal publicly or privately contacted the couple to mark the occasion. There was no phone call, no private message, no peace offering — absolutely nothing. The silence was very intentional,” said a source.

The last time the royal family publicly shared anniversary wishes for the couple was to mark their first year of marriage in 2019. The royal family’s Instagram marked the occasion with a sweet photo and message.
An Instagram message read, “Wishing The Duke and Duchess of Sussex a very happy wedding anniversary. Today marks one year since Their Royal Highnesses exchanged vows at St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle.”

Harry and Meghan famously left their roles as senior royals behind in March 2020. They moved to California to start a life outside of the royal family, followed by a series of interviews and Harry’s book Spare, which painted the House of Windsor in an unflattering light.
The duke reportedly wants to reconcile with his family members. He has stated so in the media on several occasions. However, the royals are said to have “trust” issues surrounding his intentions.
Shuter quoted a royal insider who said, “Harry keeps sending signals through the media about reconciliation. But many inside the family think this is more about winning the PR narrative than genuinely rebuilding trust.”
“There’s still enormous hurt, anger, and suspicion,” the source concluded. “Moments like this don’t heal the divide — they expose how wide it still is.”
Meghan marked her wedding anniversary on Instagram with two separate posts. One shared rare images from the royal reception. The other were photos taken at her and Prince Harry’s wedding.
