Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have received advice on navigating the next phase of their lives as their oldest child, Prince Archie, celebrated his seventh birthday on May 6.
Born in Britain but raised in the United States since 2020, Archie was far from his royal relatives when he marked this milestone. The Sussex family’s most recent visit to the UK together was during the summer of 2022 for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee festivities.
Dr Frankie Harrison, a clinical psychologist focusing on perinatal and family mental health and part of the Emma’s Diary medical advisory board, noted to The Daily Express that seven represents a “significant age developmentally” when children undergo substantial cognitive changes.
She elaborated, “Around this time, children move out of more magical, egocentric thinking and into what we’d call concrete operational thinking.”
According to Dr Harrison, children at this stage begin understanding complicated social dynamics in ways they couldn’t previously and start asking “bigger questions.”
She emphasized that the most effective approach for parents is to simply “acknowledge their questions honestly and age appropriately.”
The child psychologist went on to explain, “If questions aren’t answered, children tend to fill in the blanks. So providing concrete, honest narratives is important at this age.”
She concluded, “The relationship you’re building right now is the foundation for adolescence. Trust, openness, and the message that no question is too awkward.”
The exact number of times Archie has met his royal relatives remains unclear, though reports indicate the encounters have been minimal.
The sole documented meeting between the royal family and the Sussex children on record was during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee festivities in 2022.
