One person who once knew Prince Harry very well believes something significant could be happening between Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appear to be at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to their work plans. It was just revealed that Meghan, 44, is gearing up for her big TV return. Her final acting role was in the season 7 finale of the show Suits.
While Meghan retired from her acting career eight years ago, she has now joined the cast of the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends.
There have been reports that Meghan will portray herself in the movie and has already been at work, as she was spotted on set in Pasadena, California. Meanwhile, Prince Harry appears to be carrying out his royal duties, making appearances at charitable events, such as the Heroic Hearts Project Gala, an event in California that supports veterans with PTSD, which he attended last weekend.
The response to Meghan’s acting comeback has been mixed, but Grant Harrold, King Charles’s former butler, has shared how he thinks this move marks a big shift between Meghan and Harry.
Speaking in collaboration with Action Network as they reveal odds of Meghan returning to screens full-time at just 8/1 (11%), Grant explained, “When Meghan first joined the Royal Family, the late Queen gave her blessing for her to continue acting, which was quite unusual. But Meghan decided against it and wanted to try her way of doing royal life, but it’s all backfired a bit.
“I think she’s realised that stepping away was a mistake and she’s backtracking a bit. This is them eating humble pie a bit,” he added.
“However, she’s now got lots of other projects that she’s working on – mainly her As Ever range – and I don’t think she’ll give that up to make acting her only venture.
“So I think any extra acting work will just be a bonus, rather than her full-time career going forward. She’s made clear her passion lies in the lifestyle world, and I think that’s where her main focus will remain,” Grant continued.
He also believes Meghan’s move may be part of a bigger shift for Meghan and Harry, which could see the former actress focusing on the celebrity world while Harry remains in a royal mindset.
Grant pointed out, “We’re also seeing Harry continuing his tours solo, carrying out more traditional-styled ‘royal’ engagements focusing on causes he’s passionate about.
“It’s like they are both going back to their roots. It’s like we’re going back in time. It’s like they’re going back to the original plan.”
Grant concluded, “I wonder if that’s what he’s told his father in their latest meetings, that they were going to be taking this approach going forward – which I think the King will approve of, along with the rest of the Royal Family.”
