Over the weekend, a new royal book was serialized in the Daily Mail containing numerous scathing revelations about Prince Andrew. However, the serialization of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York by author Andrew Lownie has now attracted attention for a different reason after Prince Harry’s team has spoken out to deny a story in it.
“I can confirm Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make the comments he is alleged to have made about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry,” a spokesperson for Prince Harry told T&C. The denial is in relation to content from the book, adapted for publication in the newspaper, which claimed that Harry and Andrew had a physical fight during a family gathering in 2013. It was also said that Andrew told Harry his marriage to Meghan would “not last more than a month.”
It has been confirmed to T&C that a legal letter has been sent to the Daily Mail by Prince Harry’s counsel over the claims, which Harry’s team consider to be inaccurate, damaging and defamatory. While Prince Harry’s most notable legal battles with the media have focused on allegations of historical unlawful news gathering, he has also brought libel claims against the publishers of the Mail in the past. In 2021, he won an apology and damages after the Mail on Sunday and Mail Online published a story that falsely claimed he had turned his back on the Marines.
At the start of last year, he dropped another claim against the same publisher for a story about his security after losing a bid to get their defense thrown out.
Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York is out this month. It paints a damning picture of Prince Andrew, detailing multiple instances of him being unkind to staff and painting a picture of an arrogant and vulgar man.
Author Andrew Lownie has also written books about the Mountbattens and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. He is no stranger to fighting legal battles, having previously launched a case to get Mountbattens’ diaries and correspondence made public.
