In London, Prince Harry is returning to the United Kingdom for a brief visit this week, fueling speculation about a potential meeting with his father, King Charles III.
The Duke of Sussex, who resides in California with Meghan and their two children, is arriving in the country to take part in a series of charity events.
His last visit to the United Kingdom was in April, when Harry challenged the government’s decision to cut security, funded by taxpayers.
The 40-year-old Harry will undertake a transatlantic flight to attend the annual WellChild Awards ceremony in London – the charity he has supported as patron for 17 years.
“I have the privilege of attending the WellChild Awards and meeting incredible children, their families, and the professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit.”
Context of the Trip and Expectations
After returning to the public stage, Harry also plans to visit Nottingham on Monday to take part in the Community Recording Studio event and announce a substantial donation to Children in Need aimed at combating violence against young people.
“For twenty years these awards have highlighted the courage of young people living with complex health needs, and have shone a light on the devoted carers – families and professionals – who support them at every step.”
After the events, Harry planned a private briefing with Children in Need, as well as with the Police and Crime Commissioner and local partners. He also plans to meet informally with several young people he knew previously, before watching a few live performances at the studio.
It’s too early to talk about a meeting with King Charles during the brief trip: Buckingham Palace has not officially commented on the event.
The King is currently spending the summer at Balmoral, Scotland, but he also often returns south for medical care. No public engagements are planned on his part for the coming week.
The last meeting between Charles and Harry took place in February 2024, when the duke hurried to Britain after news of his father’s health. In July of that year, senior aides from both sides were spotted at a meeting in London, seen as a first step toward restoring a channel of communication between them.
Meanwhile, Prince William on Monday will visit Sunningdale, near London, to mark the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, and on Tuesday he plans to visit Spiral Skills in South London – a young organization funded by the Homewards initiative, to expand work with youth in new projects.
