According to PR expert Rhea Freeman, Prince Harry appears unsettled with the life he and Meghan Markle have created in California. “Prince Harry, in particular, appears increasingly caught between two narratives,” she told Daily Express. “Publicly, he remains closely associated with remembrance, service and duty. Privately, he is operating in a Hollywood environment where visibility is part of the transaction.”

Despite it being six years since Prince Harry‘s royal exit, the Duke of Sussex hasn’t entirely accepted his celebrity status. “The tension is not that he attends these events, but that there seems to be a reluctance to fully own that world once he is in it,” Rhea Freeman said. “From a brand standpoint, this halfway house is the problem. Hollywood does not operate on selective anonymity. Presence implies consent. Once you step into those rooms, control over image becomes shared, not personal. Attempts to row back afterwards can come across as awkward rather than principled.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made headlines after they asked Kim Kardashian to remove a photo she shared of them at Kris Jenner‘s birthday bash. “We were told that it was totally cool to post, and then after it was posted, I think they realized it was Remembrance Day [a U.K. holiday], they didn’t want to be seen at a party even though it’s already up,” the SKIMs founder said during an appearance on the “Khloé in Wonderland” podcast.

While in California, Meghan Markle appears to be the one directing Prince Harry‘s life. “Meghan has consistently demonstrated a clearer strategy and stronger command of that ecosystem [Hollywood],” Kinsey Schofield said. “Harry, by contrast, has struggled to define a role beyond being ‘Prince Harry,’ which leaves him vulnerable to fading into the background.”
