At first, William and Catherine were just good friends, with their relationship having reportedly not blossomed into anything more until their second year in Scotland. It was then that the couple moved into a rented home with two other housemates, and began to fall in love.
While living together may have helped the couple build on their relationship, it was once revealed that this was very close to not being the case. This is because William, and the one other male housemate, were almost banned from living in the rented house, through no fault of their own.
As reported by OK! Magazine, the landlady Charlotte Smith previously explained to ivillage.co.uk : “We’d had an unfortunate experience with some boys in the flat once before and we were determined not to have young men there again. Broken furniture, broken windows – there was a lot of damage, so that put us off really.
“I said to this young lady we’d really rather not have more boys and she said, ‘What if I were to tell you that it was Prince William?’”
It was this fact that encouraged the landlords to change their mind and allow William and the fellow male housemate to move in.
Although William and Catherine reportedly enjoyed living with their housemates Fergus Boyd and Olivia Bleasdale, they didn’t extend their lease for the third and fourth year of university.
They reportedly found this at Balgove House in Strathtyrum, Prince William’s distant cousin’s estate. They called the estate home for their final two years at university.
While they no longer lived with friends, it is believed they often invited them round to the estate – which was watched by police protection officers for the couple’s safety – for parties.
