Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and their children could all be set to lose their royal titles when Prince William becomes monarch, an insider has claimed.
Markle, 44, and Harry, 41, remain the Duke and Duchess of Sussex despite giving up royal duties five years ago and publicly slamming the monarchy.
Meanwhile, the Sussexes’ children Archie and Lilibet are technically Prince and Princess respectively, titles claimed by their parents after King Charles’s coronation.
In recent days, the palace took the nearly unprecedented step of effectively removing Prince Andrew’s York Dukedom amid fresh scrutiny of the disgraced royal.
While Andrew released a statement claiming he was choosing not to use the titles, the move reportedly came at the behest of Prince William.
Royal dukedoms, which are traditionally bestowed upon marriage by the monarch, have largely been left untouched in times of scandal.
Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson famously remained the Duke and Duchess of Windsor for their entire lives despite living in virtual exile in France.
But according to respected royal insider Tom Sykes, William is already planning a major blitz in which he will strip a series of outer royals of their titles.
“Prince William will strip Prince Andrew, along with all other non-working royals, of their HRHs and princely titles when he ascends to the throne, friends and allies of the Prince have (said),” he wrote in the Daily Beast.
In addition to the Sussex clan, William is reportedly planning to strip his cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of their Princess titles and HRHs.
“The dramatic change will be effected by an executive royal order known as ‘letters patent’ ratified by Parliament in the early weeks of the reign of King William V,” he revealed.
“It will remove princely titles not just from Andrew but also from Beatrice, Eugenie, Harry, Archie, and Lilibet.”
Meanwhile, the children of Prince Edward and Princess Anne have never used princely titles.
According to palace sources who spoke to Mr Sykes, Meghan and Harry will also finally have their HRHs revoked after years of tensions.
“Meghan continues to use her HRH despite being ordered not to do so by the late Queen Elizabeth II,” he said.
Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, live in a lavish California compound with their parents and presently have little connection to the British royal family or the United Kingdom.
If Will does remove the titles, the move would be in line with similar actions by other monarchies in recent years.
Denmark’s Queen Margrethe stunned her younger son after eliminating several of her grandchildren’s titles in one fell swoop, designed to cut down the monarchy.
Reportedly, William has long looked at his Scandinavian cousins – particularly Denmark’s King Frederik and Queen Mary – as a model for his future reign.
