Prince Harry met with King Charles earliler this month, with the two chatting over tea, and Prince William is still upset about it, it’s being reported, which clearly is not a good look for the heir in waiting.
There have been a number of reports that William is stubborn, so that part we already knew, but new claims have surfaced about William being angry toward staff and insisting he’s called Sir versus using his first name.
And now his anger is showing even more, begrudging a meeting between father and son, and holding onto it for two weeks and counting, according to Cosmpolitan magazine.
It’s no secret Harry is trying to make amends and reconcile with his family, which meeting with Charles was the first step, and when it comes to William, there may be no steps.
When appearing on Pod Save the King, we spoke with host Jennifer Newton, and it was agreed William does not want to reconcile with his brother — not now, not later, not ever — unless he surprises us and has a change of heart.
But in terms of Harry making up with his father, at the least, making first steps, it’s not clear why it’s so bothersome to William.
A source spoke to the Examiner, saying: “It sickens William that Harry has wormed his way back to his father’s affections.”
The source added: “To him it’s just wrong on every level and utterly ridiculous. The fact his brother’s now got this direct line back to the family despite all the pain and misery he’s inflicted—he’s totally bewildered and frustrated that it’s being sanctioned.”
It could be something as simple as sibling rivalry, or possessiveness, that William is territorial of his father, and just doesn’t want Harry around, that he likes being an only child, in theory.
Or, it could just be flat-out pettiness, which has come up in conversations with royal express when going over the ongoing feud between the two brothers.
At this point in time, everyone has made mistakes, no one is right, there is no winner, and with talk of King Charles being invited to the US for a state visit next year, which may spill over to the Sussexes, it seems time for William to put his sword down, stop fighting, and call it a truce.
The special relationship between the US and UK is bigger than brotherly bickering.
