After Kate Middleton’s cancer scare, Prince William confronted the real possibility of losing his wife, a moment that reignited the spark in their relationship, a royal expert reveals.
Former royal photographer Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News that after a difficult two-year period, William and Kate’s marriage appears to be stronger than ever. Pelham Turner claims that the couple has grown closer after facing life-changing challenges.
“There were ongoing rumors at one time that the marriage between William and Kate may not have been as blissful as publicly portrayed,” Turner told the outlet. “William has been known for his outbursts, and Kate has found ways of calming the situation down.”
Pelham Turner concluded, “Personally, I feel after the cancer diagnosis and the threat of losing her, the closeness was rekindled. And that is why decisions were made, such as their quieter living accommodation rather than a palace, to try and lead a normal familylife have become their focus.”

William carried the heaviest burden throughout his wife’s illness, worrying not only about her health but also about his father, King Charles, who was also diagnosed with cancer just one year after taking on the role of monarch. For months, William was the family’s public face while also managing his wife’s treatment.
In early 2024, it was revealed that both the king and Princess of Wales were each diagnosed with undisclosed types of cancer. Kate announced she completed chemotherapy in September of that same year via Instagram, while Charles shared in December 2025, per the BBC, that his treatment would be “reduced” in 2026.
To signify a fresh start amid Kate’s renewed health, the couple, along with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, moved from their Adelaide Cottage home in late 2025 and into Forest Lodge. The home, located near Windsor Great Park, will reportedly remain the couple’s permanent residence for the foreseeable future, reported The Telegraph.
The outlet reported the home has “eight bedrooms and six bathrooms, a long gallery, a separate staff flat, a tennis court and a large pond. The house is protected by a ha-ha, a sunken fence commonly installed in landscaped gardens in the 18th century to give the illusion of an unbroken view while providing boundaries for grazing livestock.”
Fox News reported that Forest Lodge will continue as the couple’s residence even after William ascends to the throne. Buckingham Palace previously served as the royal residence for Queen Elizabeth.
