Princess Anne once appeared to shut down a rude student when they asked about her living situation during a visit to Russia. The late Queen’s only daughter, who is frequently referred to as the hardest-working member of the Royal Family, was asked about Buckingham Palace during a visit to Moscow in 1990.
Speaking to the royal, the inquisitive student asked: “How does it feel having Buckingham Palace as your private property?” To which Anne could only reply with a typically quick-witted response.
After giving a little smile, the Princess said: “Well, I don’t know because it isn’t.”
After laughter from other students in the room, Anne then took time to explain Buckingham Palace – including informing him of which royal actually lived there at the time.
She told the students: “No, it’s a state-owned establishment. I wasn’t actually born there, I have my office there, and the Queen [Queen Elizabeth II] lives there, but it’s not really private property.”
The clip has since appeared on social media, with many fans spotting the interaction on TikTok. Noticing her quick wit, one fan wrote: “Love the Princess Royal! She’s humble and a class act.”
Another added: “She’s wonderful! Such a true treasure!!”
A third even noticed that Anne was seemingly about to refer to the late Queen as simply her “mum” when explaining who lived at the Central London-based property.
Speaking of the late Prince Philip, another fan commented: “Same humour as her father.”
