Kane Brown has been open and honest about his childhood, having previously shared that he didn’t grow up under ideal circumstances. But through all the chaos and a difficult upbringing, the country star is grateful to have come out the other side with more than he had hoped for.
Now with a shining career under his belt, a loving wife in Katelyn Jae Brown, and three kids, Kingsley, Kodi and Krewe, Brown is putting his story to music, teasing a new song with a motivational message that’s all about him overcoming the obstacles of his past and being forever grateful about how things have turned out.
In a recent Instagram post, shared on the same night of the 59th Annual CMA Awards, which took place on Wednesday (Nov. 19), Brown, 32, dropped some of the lyrics of his unreleased track and its accompanying melody, which finds him putting his vocals front and center over a soft and delicate acoustic and piano blend that’s everything magical as it is ear-grabbing.
Still in its rawest form, Brown didn’t share whether he wrote the not-yet-titled song with anyone or by himself, but the lyrics seem to point to his personal life as a kid. “Daddy’s in jail and momma’s single/ Ramen for dinner with a side of pringles/ On a paper plate/ Ate it everyday/ On my own at 17/ Grabbed my Xbox and a pair of jeans/ And I got out on the first bus outta that town,” Brown sings the first verse of the track that’s bound to take him to the top of the charts if he releases a studio version of the song.
“I played the cards that I was dealt/ Wouldn’t wish ‘em on nobody else/ Odds would say I didn’t stand a chance,” the uplifting chorus goes. “But I went all in, and I doubled down/ Still can’t believe how life turned out/ Sure wasn’t mine so it must’ve been God’s plan/ Who says you can’t win a losin’ hand.”
Brown didn’t indicate whether the song would be part of a larger, full-length project, nor did he post a release date. But, fans were on board, hoping he would drop the entire song in the future.
“Ugh. The lyrics are perfect 👌🏾 who says you can’t win on a losing hand 😭💣🤍 nailed it!” One person wrote in the comments section of the post.
“Beautiful and that chorus 🙌,” Another person commented. A third person added, “This gave me chills 🔥🔥 Please tell us you’re releasing this song 🙏,” while a fourth follower said, “I really admire an artist’s authenticity to write and record things that are meaningful and others can identify with, as well as show who you are and where you come from. Loving this one already ❤️.”
The tease of the not-yet-titled song seemingly comes after Brown was snubbed by the Country Music Association (CMA), as he had not been recognized for his accomplishments. Despite selling out arenas, earning multiple No. 1s at country radio, and dominating streaming numbers, the grounded singer/songwriter didn’t receive a single nomination in any of the 2025 CMA Award categories. And, this isn’t the first time his name has been omitted from voting categories — something he certainly has taken note of. Brown is more than deserving of an Entertainer of the Year nod for his electrifying live shows, and his music is also award-worthy as it continues to dominate radio airwaves.
“Today’s just another day, I’m beating myself up, and I’m feeling down,” Brown captioned alongside the post. “But I will never let it beat me 💪🏽 all my underdogs out there keep fighting ❤.”
Music aside, Brown and his wife have been taking up a new role as executive producers for a holiday movie based on their hit duet, “Thank God.” Titled Thank God: Christmas at Keller Ranch, the film will premiere on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 8:00 p.m. ET on Lifetime, as part of the network’s “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” holiday schedule.
