It was Princess Eugenie’s 36th birthday on Monday – but one person you suspect she will hope doesn’t rock up with a belated card and present is her lying low mother Sarah Ferguson. Fergie, 66, and ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor have already brought a new level of hell to the formerly care-free and peaceful lives of their two married daughters, and their young families.
Rumours have been circulating that Fergie is contemplating a tell-all memoir, to give ‘her side’ of the story regarding her seemingly intertwined and toxic relationship with millionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Fergie, while nothing she did indicates any criminal wrongdoing, seemingly lived in a moral vacuum when hailing the self-confessed child sex pervert as a “supreme friend” – or pleading with vile Epstein: “Marry me!”
While the fallout from the shocking Epstein Files revelations still swirl round her she desperately needs a port in the storm – and would expect to find it with one of her daughters.
But new reports suggest she must look elsewhere than Eugenie’s home in Portugal, as the 36-year-old’s husband Jack Brooksbank, 39, is not too keen on his ‘trouble-in-law’ rolling up anytime soon.
According to a family source, Jack has a “code of honour” that means he won’t “completely desert Andrew and Sarah”, but won’t “step into the line of fire himself”.
The source added: “His first loyalty has to be to his wife and their two young children. The whole sordid affair has already brought them a great deal of unwarranted attention, and he won’t do anything to increase that.”
The owner of a consultancy firm is reportedly concerned about the impact the scandal could have on his business – but primarily his children and his already humiliated wife.
Let’s not forget it was Fergie who took Eugenie and Beatrice in 2009 with her to the US, to celebrate with Epstein his release from prison from that child sex charge involving a 14-year-old.
Then, Fergie humiliated Eugenie again by gossiping to a no doubt thrilled Epstein how the then 19-year-old was away on a “sha**ing weekend.” Princess Eugenie had just started dating her now-husband, Jack.
Eugenie has already felt compelled to step down as patron of the charity Anti-Slavery International, a role she held for seven years.
The 187-year-old charity – the world’s oldest human rights organisation – was originally founded as the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society in 1839 to fight slavery and related abuses.
The UK-based organisation thanked the princess for her support and confirmed its relationship had ended, giving no reason for the dramatic severing of ties.
Now Eugenie and Jack reportedly hope Fergie will not ask to move in with them. A second source said: “To be frank, Sarah is difficult to live with and they don’t want the responsibility of looking after her at the moment, even temporarily.”
Disgraced Sarah has not been seen in public since December, when she attended the christening of Princess Beatrice’s daughter, Athena, at St James’ Palace in London. Where she turns up next is anyone’s guess.
Eugenie will perhaps just be hoping her birthday week isn’t used as an excuse by Fergie to appear on her doorstep shouting: “Surprise!”
That’s one gift she would probably want to send back.
