Queen Elizabeth II wanted Meghan Markle to thrive within the royal family.
According to Robert Hardman’s upcoming book, Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. Her Story, Her Majesty tried to help the Duchess of Sussex adjust after marrying Prince Harry.
“She [Elizabeth] was keen for Meghan to learn the royal ropes,” the author wrote in a passage obtained by Daily Mail.

“The Queen was really wanting to give it a go,” a source told Hardman. “She was so sweet, she had brought Meghan a present and tried so hard. The train always left at 11 at night and the Queen was on the platform to welcome her. They had breakfast together in the morning and she was always trying to do small things, to show her the ropes and bring her in.”
When Meghan and the Duke of Sussex announced their engagement in November 2017, the Suits star joined Harry, Prince William and Kate Middleton in their official duties.
“Despite wildly over-optimistic talk of a new royal ‘dream team’ or, even more fancifully, a ‘Fab Four,’ resentments were growing,” the journalist claimed.
By January 2020, Meghan and Harry were ready to leave England behind for life in the United States.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” they said in a statement.
“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the royal family and work to become financially independent, whilst continuing to fully support Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment,” the couple added.
Elizabeth addressed Meghan and Harry’s move in a message of her own. “Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the royal family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as family while remaining a valued part of my family,” she said.
In the years after the pair left the U.K., Meghan and Harry publicly slammed the royal family.
“In those months when I was pregnant [with Prince Archie]… we have in tandem the conversation of, ‘He won’t be given security. He’s not going to be given a title,’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” the mother of two told Oprah Winfrey during their bombshell 2021 interview.
“There were several conversations about it,” Meghan continued. “I think that would be very damaging to them. That was relayed to me from Harry. Those were conversations that his family had with him. It was really hard to be able to see those as compartmentalized conversations.”
