One of those instances came this week, when one of her former chefs, Darren McGrady, revealed that a viral breakfast recipe trending on social media had been one of the late Queen’s favourites. The breakfast in question is the two-ingredient Japanese “cheesecake”, which saw people around the world dipping Biscoff biscuits in yoghurt pots and leaving them in the fridge or freezer for a healthy breakfast or dessert the day after.
Mr McGrady revealed that the late Queen would favour a more elaborate version of the recipe, which features cream and whisky and would regularly have it for dessert.
He wrote under his video on YouTube, where he revealed the whole recipe: “When I saw the latest viral dessert on social media, I thought, ‘That’s not new! The Queen was eating that over 30 years ago.
“I’m sure you have seen all over TikTok, Instagram and Facebook the viral Japanese cheesecake with Greek yoghurt and Biscoff cookies.
“Well when I was at Buckingham Palace, I used to prepare a very similar dish that used ginger biscuits. This is probably one of my easiest recipes to prepare, but it was always served at the royal table.”
The former royal chef said in the video: “At Buckingham Palace, we’d often serve this dish called gingernut cream and the chefs loved to serve it, the Queen loved ordering it and loved eating it!”
