Queen Elizabeth II may have been monarch for more than 70 years and could access the most lavish of luxuries; however, when it came to her everyday life, she preferred the simple pleasures, a former royal butler has claimed. The late Queen enjoyed an array of sweet treats and delicious puddings quite often.
But she was partial to one particular sweet treat, and it featured chocolate. Grand Harrold worked for the Royal Family and served as the butler to King Charles when he was Prince of Wales, between 2004 and 2011.
He also looked after Prince William and Princess Catherine during his time at Highgrove.
According to Mr Harrold, the late Queen was quite fond of a particular treat when enjoying her tea. The treat in question was a chocolate biscuit cake.
Speaking in an interview with coffee bean retailer Coffee Friend, the former royal butler said: “Whenever coffee or tea was offered, biscuits were always there if guests wanted one.
Not so much if it was afternoon tea. It isn’t a typical biscuit, but the Queen’s favourite sweet treat to have with a cup of tea was chocolate biscuit cake.”
Elizabeth’s son has a different preference and wants his biscuits a bit less indulgent, according to Mr Harrold.
He said: “The King’s favourite biscuit is a Bath Oliver biscuit. I used to give him a packet for his birthday!”
Former royal chef Darren McGrady previously claimed that the late Queen would never leave the dessert uneaten, “meaning a chef would have to travel with the cake if the Queen ever left the Palace while the cake had not been finished”.
The dessert is simple to make at home, too.
