Queen Mary of Denmark received a few stern words from her mother-in-law during a public appearance at a concert by the Royal Life Guards Music Corps for former Queen Margrethe’s 86th birthday.As music played at the event, Tilia, Mary’s pet dachshund, walked between the royals, with Mary briefly breaking formation to give her a pat on the head.
However, Queen Mary’s mother-in-law, Margrethe II, didn’t seem to appreciate the move, shaking her head and appearing to correct her with a firm few words.
A Danish fan told Hello! Magazine they noted what was said between the pair: “I don’t think now is the correct time for that.”
While King Frederik of Denmark laughed at the misshap, Queen Mary quickly obeyed instructions continued with her duties.
Queen Mary and King Frederik became the king and queen of Denmark in 2024 when Margrethe, Frederik’s mother, abdicated the throne.
The royal, 54, who visited her hometown in Tasmania just weeks ago on a trip to Australia, continued to wear dark mourning clothes on Thursday, wearing a shade of navy.
The royal confirmed her father’s passing as a statement previously read: “It is with great sorrow that Her Majesty, The Queen, announces that her father, Professor John Dalgleish Donaldson, has died in Hobart, Tasmania. He was 84 years old.”
She added: “My heart is heavy, and my thoughts are grey. My beloved father has passed away. But I know that when the grief settles, the memories will brighten my day, and what will remain strongest is love and gratitude for everything he gave me and taught me.”
Mary revealed that her father’s health had been declining over the past few years, but they had spent some precious final moments together at the end of March.
A private funeral service is scheduled to be held soon.
