Actress Quincey Szymeczek chatted about starring in the new vertical drama “Under the Hood” opposite Cayman Cardiff.
She opened up about being a part of the digital age, and she furnished her advice for hopefuls that wish to go into the acting and entertainment business.
Filming this series
On making this new Vigloo mini-series, she said, “The making of ‘Under the Hood’ was one of my favorite experiences so far in the entertainment industry.”
“We just had a whole lot of fun from cast to crew and knew we had a good story on our hands from day one,” she added.
Playing Selene Beaumont
In “Under the Hood,” she played the role of Selene Beaumont. “I loved playing Selene’s vulnerability,” she admitted.
“Selene wasn’t a one note lead; she had pain she had to keep to herself until she found sanctuary in Jaxon (Cayman). I loved showing that emotional exchange in the character,” she elaborated.
Working with Cayman Cardiff
On working with Cayman Cardiff, she remarked, “Cayman is a strong, seasoned actor who also made the job so effortless. He was an incredible scene partner who knew how to hold space and mirror back to deliver the best performance.”
“Cayman is still one of my favorite scene partners to this day, and I can’t wait to see where he goes in his career,” she added.
Lessons learned from the ‘Under the Hood’ screenplay
On the lessons learned from the “Under the Hood” screenplay, she shared, “Selene had a lot of moments where she showed deep insecurity and weakness.”
“I struggled justifying this until I better understood that all of her motivation came from her love for her father, which was a very relatable motivation for me. Once I unlocked that, I felt very connected to her,” she explained.
The digital age
On being a performer in the digital age, she said, “Social media is a double-edged sword. I love that it’s a fantastic tool for keeping us connected and promoting my work and gaining traction.”
“Verticals have also been a huge blessing for my career and workload as an actor,” she noted.
“The digital space can also be a detriment to mental health and I encourage everyone to balance their consumption with their own creation instead. Creating is a very powerful experience,” she elaborated.
Advice for young and emerging actors
For young and aspiring actors, she said, “The best tool you have as an actor is being yourself. It’s a cliche, but no one can recreate you.”
“Get to know yourself, love yourself, and lead every interaction from the place of ‘here I am, I love me,’ and the right projects will find you,” she suggested.
Success
Regarding her definition of the word success, she said, “Success to me means satisfaction.”
“If you put your best foot forward in your projects, it doesn’t matter what you’re working on, you can walk away from that project being proud of what you showed,” she acknowledged.
“Don’t let anyone tell you whether or not you should feel satisfied with yourself; that’s in your hands and sense of self,” she added.
Message for her fans
For her fans, she expressed, “To my fans and the supporters of the vertical space, thank you for continuing to watch our shows and give your feedback.”
“It’s so valuable to this blooming space and we have the opportunity to co-create it. I’ve loved getting to know you and can’t wait to see what 2026 holds for us,” she exclaimed.
