Princess Catherine is said to have grown incredibly wary of Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice since the latest revelations in the Epstein scandal. The sisters have been dealing with the fallout over their parents’ connection to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Although it was previously thought that Beatrice and Eugenie would remain largely unaffected by the actions of their parents – in particular their father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor – but the past few weeks have proved otherwise. Neither sister attended the service held by King Charles on Easter Sunday – with it reported that that the monarch’s nieces both had commitments elsewhere.
It had also been reported that Princess Catherine and Prince William have been trying to keep a distance from the sisters – with the future Queen’s reason for not associating with Eugenie revealed by one royal author.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said that Catherine just doesn’t “have that much in common” with either Beatrice nor Eugenie.
Eugenie, 36, is known to have attended the same school as Catherine – Marlborough College in Wiltshire – although the similarities between the pair end there.
Although in attendance at the same school, their experience at Malborough couldn’t have been more different.
Eugenie was once caught “frolicking naked in the ground” at the plush, £61,000-per-year boarding school following a night of end-of-term drinking in 2008, when she was 18.
A staff member told the Sun: “The girls had been drinking, possibly in a local pub, and decided to let their hair down. For some reason they stripped off and started prancing about. It was light-hearted and they were sort of frolicking like nymphs.”
A source also told PA at the time: “It was nothing more than high jinks at the end of term in May. A group of them were reprimanded and that’s the end of the matter.”
Mr Fitzwilliams also added that Eugenie also seems to associate more with her cousin, adding: “Eugenie, particularly, seems to be closer to [Prince] Harry.”
