SingerReba McEntire is sharing some comments about Kelly Clarkson‘s children, River, 11, and Remington, 9, following the August 2025 death of their father, Brandon Blackstock. McEntire and Brandon’s father, Narvel Blackstock, divorced in 2015 after a 26-year marriage, per TV Insider.
TV Insider reported that McEntire commented on Brandon’s death during a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight at the 2025 Emmy Awards. In the September 14 interview, McEntire said she and Brandon’s surviving family members “miss him every minute.” In addition, she said his children, who also include his two older kids, Savannah, 23, and Seth, 18, mothered by his first ex-wife, Melissa Ashworth, “are doing well.”
“They’re all bonding together and hanging out with each other, and taking it one day at a time. We know God’s got this,” said McEntire to the publication.
Brandon, who had been battling melanoma, died when he was 48, as reported by TV Insider. According to the publication, McEntire took to social media to honor her former stepson less than a week following his death.
“Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock went home to be with God. His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God’s presence. There is no one else like him, and I’m thankful for the time we had together. His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace cowboy. Happy trails to you til we meet again,” read the social media post, as reported by TV Insider.

People magazine reported that McEntire had spoken about her love for Brandon prior to his death. According to the publication, McEntire said he was her son during a 2021 interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“Brandon’s been my son forever it seems. Although he’s my stepson, I still love him like he’s my total — my blood,” said McEntire, who has a biological son, Shelby, with Narvel, to Entertainment Tonight.
Clarkson and Brandon, who wed in 2013, finalized their divorce in 2022, per People magazine. According to the publication, McEntire and Clarkson maintained a positive relationship following the “Breakaway” singer’s split from Brandon.
“Kelly and I do talk, we text and I love them both, and so I can’t play favorites because I’ve been a friend of Kelly for a long time,” said McEntire during a 2021 Entertainment Tonight interview per People.
