Rita Wilson is celebrating Tom Hanks on his 70th birthday!
Hanks turns 70 on Thursday, July 9, and Wilson, 69, took to Instagram to honor him on the milestone day. “Happy Birthday, love of my life! I love you so much!!! 🎂💕💐☀️🌺🎂💕💐🌺☀️,” Wilson wrote, alongside a recent photo of her husband sporting a scruffy white beard, sunglasses, a bandana tied around his neck and a faded linen shirt against a sunny backdrop.
A number of Hanks and Wilson’s celebrity friends shared well wishes to him in comments on Wilson’s post. “Happy birthday Tom!!! ❤️,” Julianne Moore wrote in a comment. Isla Fisher added, “Happiest Birthday to the best❤️,” while Mariska Hargitay, singer LeAnn Rimes and British television host Jools Holland also chimed in with birthday wishes.
Hanks shared a short video of himself jumping into a body of water — similar to a video he shared of himself jumping into the ocean on his birthday in July 2025 — to his own Instagram on July 9. “This guy turns 70 TODAY. Great music. Good coffee. Good cause,” he wrote in a caption, promoting a “Hanks b-day marathon” on the New York City-based Boss Radio 66, a radio station the actor has worked at as a part-time guest host for many years.
Wilson and Hanks have been married for more than 38 years. The couple met on the set of ABC’s sitcom Bosom Buddies in 1981 and reconnected years later. They went public with their relationship in 1986 and married in 1988. Hanks and Wilson are parents to Hanks’ two youngest sons, Chester “Chet” Hanks, 35, and Truman, 30. Hanks shares his older two kids, Colin, 48, and E.A., 44, with his ex-wife Samantha Lewes, who died at 49 years old in 2002.
Hanks and Wilson most recently stepped out in public at the opening of Barack Obama‘s Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on June 18. The couple were also recently seen celebrating the Fourth of July at Macy’s annual fireworks show in New York City with a number of celebrities in the wake of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s star-studded wedding at Madison Square Garden on July 3. Wilson and Hanks attended the wedding the day prior as well.
Wilson recently opened up about her and Hanks’ marriage when she spoke with PEOPLE for a cover story ahead of the release for her album Sound of a Woman. One of the most important bedrocks of their relationship, she said, remains their shared bathroom. “That’s where you download everything,” she said. “That’s where you download the day. You laugh about what you’re doing. In the mornings, you’re thinking about, ‘What are you doing today? Where are you going to be? Great, I want you there.’ “

Wilson also said in that cover story that she and Hanks “never go to bed mad.” “I heard that early, early on, and I thought, ‘That’s actually really good.’ You don’t want to wake up in the morning and have that lingering feeling,” she said. “So whatever it is, resolve it before you go to bed.”
Hanks most recently appeared on the big screen in 2025’s The Phoenician Scheme. In June, he reprised his iconic voice role as Toy Story’s sheriff toy Woody for Toy Story 5. He also narrated a World War II documentary titled World War II with Tom Hanks that airs on the History Channel through the end of July.
