Rob Reiner’s eldest daughter Tracy has spoken out about her father’s death after he and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their home on Sunday (December 14). Police and firefighters were called at 3.38pm to the Los Angeles property, with NBC News later reporting that they appeared to have died from stab wounds. Rob’s daughter Tracy, who he adopted during his marriage to actress Penny Marshall between 1971 and 1981, has spoken out over the heartbreaking news.
She said to NBC News: “I came from the greatest family ever. I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.” The family had also issued a statement after the tragedy, telling Variety: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
It has been reported by PEOPLE that police confirmed Reiner’s son, Nick, 32, is being questioned by investigators. Nick is one of three children they share together, along with Jake and Romy.
The LA Fire Department confirmed that a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were found dead inside their home and detectives from the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division had been assigned the case.
After a large police presence at the house, the captain of LAPD, Mike Bland, confirmed they were investigating an “apparent homicide”. It’s been reported that there were no signs of forced entry into the home. Investigators were waiting on a search warrant to conduct a full crime scene investigation.
Tributes have poured in for Reiner from notable actors including Ben Stiller, who said: “Rob Reiner was one of my favorite directors. He made some of the most formative movies for my generation. He was a kind caring person who was really really funny. I didn’t know him well but was always a fan and I feel a real sadness for those who did, and his family.”
Elijah Wood wrote: “Horrified to hear of the passing of Rob Reiner and his wonderful wife Michelle. So much love to their kids and family.”
Michele Reiner, Rob’s wife of thirty years, was also an accomplished producer, actor and photographer, working with her husband on many of his famous projects. They met on the set of When Harry Met Sally, with Reiner stating their own romance inspired the film’s ending. They married in 1989, the year the film came out.
