The filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife were reportedly murdered after a family argument “boiled over.” The 78-year-old Hollywood director and his partner Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found dead at their home in Los Angeles on Sunday (14.12.25), and the Los Angeles Police Department’s robbery homicide division is investigating the case as an “apparent homicide.” Their son is reportedly a person of interest in the tragic incident. The Los Angeles Times reported there were no signs of forced entry into the home.
It has since been reported by The Sun that Reiner and his wife allegedly died of horrific knife wounds, specifically to the throat. The cause of the alleged argument is currently under formal investigation.
PEOPLE reports the Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the couple’s home at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon to provide medical aid, but found the pair already deceased.
Speaking at a press conference, LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said: “We’re going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation.”
He also insisted the force has not identified a suspect and no arrests have been made.
Hamilton clarified: “[We are] not seeking anyone as a suspect, or as a person of interest or in any other manner, and we will not be doing that until we conduct our investigation and move forward … No one has been detained … No one is being interviewed.”
After news of the couple’s death became public, the family shared their sorrow in an emotional statement, which read: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner.
“We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
Since news of the tragedy became public, tributes have poured in from famous faces, including former US President Barack Obama, Misery star Kathy Bates, and Christopher Guest, who worked with Rob Reiner on This Is Spinal Tap and The Princess Bride.
