Sir Rod Stewart pulled no punches when the subject of Donald Trump came up in conversation with King Charles III.
The 81-year-old rock legend attended a celebration marking the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust on Monday, May 11. Charles, 77, and Queen Camilla, 78, were also present at the milestone event held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, where the king delivered a speech to honor his long-standing charity.
Footage circulating on social media captured the pair in conversation, during which Rod reportedly addressed Charles’ recent state visit to the United States. In doing so, he appeared to simultaneously commend the British monarch while taking a pointed swipe at Trump, seemingly referring to the 79-year-old as a “ratbag.”
Daily Mail Royal Correspondent Rebecca English reported in a tweet that Sir Rod told Charles, “May I say, well done in the Americas. You were superb. Absolutely superb. You put that little ratbag in his place….”
Although Charles had his back to the camera, a brief glimpse of his profile suggested he was laughing in response. What the King said in reply remains unknown, reports the Mirror US.
This is not the first time Stewart has publicly criticized Trump. Back in January, the rock icon took to social media to condemn the former reality TV star following his claims that British and NATO forces had avoided front-line combat during the war in Afghanistan — remarks that were denounced by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and numerous British organizations. Rod created a video responding to Trump’s remarks and urged Starmer and Reform UK Leader Nigel Farage to demand an apology from Trump.
“I may just be a humble rock star. I’m also a knight of the realm and I have my opinions.” The Maggie May singer began. “I was born just after [World] War [II] and have great respect for our armed forces that fought and gave us our freedom.
“So, it hurts me badly, deeply when I read that the draft dodger Trump has criticized our troops in Afghanistan for not being on the front line,” Rod added.
“We lost over 400 of our guys. Think of their parents. Think about it and Trump calls ’em almost like cowards. It’s unbearable. So, I’m calling on you, Prime Minister Starmer and Farage. Please make the draft dodger Trump apologize, please,” he continued.
Rod ended the video with a salute as “Take a stand” and “Thank You” appeared on screen.
Charles and Camilla recently wrapped up a four-day visit to America from April 27 to 30, where they were received by Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, 56. The trip included stops in Washington, DC, Virginia, and New York City.
Charles also addressed Congress and presented Trump with the original brass conning tower bell from HMS Trump, a British World War II submarine.
