Startup Roli originally made a splash with its inventive instruments. Nowadays, it’s also exploring software and services – including a new tool called AI Music Coach.
Unveiled this week, it works with Roli’s Airwave keyboard and is part chatbot, guiding people through personalised lessons while using Airwave’s camera and hand-tracking tech to assess their performance.
“The combination of hand tracking, advanced voice capabilities and deep musical knowledge results in an entirely new type of practice, with a teacher or for standalone practice,” said CEO Roland Lamb. “It’s more fun, but also more effective.”
For now, AI Music Coach is a closed beta for Airwave owners to sign up to, but Roli said it will open a public beta by the end of March. It follows the launch of Roli’s beta AI assistant feature last year.
The company has also published a ‘Manifesto for AI Music Learning’ promising that “while Roli will make music learning more widely accessible, AI should not be a replacement for meaningful human interaction”.
