Major League Baseball rolled out the 2027 schedules for all teams on Thursday afternoon — and the Royals’ slate of games features an extra-early start.
That isn’t unique to Kansas City: Overall, it’s going to be the earliest start to a season in MLB history as baseball confronts the possibility of a labor stoppage this coming offseason.
MLB and the players’ union are working on a new collective-bargaining agreement. The current one expires Dec. 1. Negotiations could come together in time to keep the new schedule intact, or an expired CBA and subsequent lockout could push back the historic start.
For now, at least, the Royals will open the 2027 season by playing host to American League Central rival Minnesota on March 25 at Kauffman Stadium — the earliest season opener in franchise history.
After two more games against the Twins, the Royals will welcome another divisional rival, the Chicago White Sox, for a three-game series.
Game times for all 2027 contests will be announced at a later date.
Kansas City will face every other MLB team, all 29 of them, in 2027. The Royals are scheduled to play 13 games each against their four AL Central opponents. They’ll play six to seven games against other AL foes and three games apiece against the NL teams — with the exception of the rival St. Louis Cardinals.
The I-70 Series against the Cardinals features six games in 2027. The Royals visit St. Louis on April 1, 3 and 4 before playing host to the Redbirds in mid-July. The latter series kicks off a homestand and will be KC’s first series out of the All-Star break.
The Royals will also play host to opponents on several major holidays. On Easter Sunday they host the Twins (March 28); on Mother’s Day (May 9) they’ll welcome the Toronto Blue Jays; and the Detroit Tigers will visit The K for July Fourth.
The Royals will also hit the road for some holidays and other festivities in 2027. They’ll be in a spirited environment at Yankee Stadium for Memorial Day (May 31) and Lou Gehrig Day (June 2). They’ll also be in Texas facing the Houston Astros on Father’s Day (June 20) and visit the Athletics for Labor Day (Sept. 6).
The Royals will play next year’s Jackie Robinson Day game at home against the A’s on April 15 and the annual Roberto Clemente Day game at home against the Cleveland Guardians on Sept. 15.
The All-Star break in 2027 runs July 12-15, with the MLB All-Star Game set for July 13 at Chicago’s Wrigley Field.
The longest stretch of the Royals’ 2027 season will run from June 18 to July 4, when they will play on 17 consecutive days. The Royals are slated to end their regular season with a six-game road trip to Cleveland and Boston from Sept. 21 through Sept. 26.
