Kansas City Royals prospect Carter Jensen is returning home.
On Tuesday, Jensen is set to make his Major League Baseball debut at Kauffman Stadium against the Los Angeles Angels.
Jensen, 22, is a Kansas City native. He attended Park Hill High School and was selected in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He rose swiftly through the minor-league system after an electric 2025 campaign across two levels as a catcher.

This season, Jensen hit .290 with 20 home runs and 76 RBIs. He thrived with Triple-A Omaha playing alongside several Royals prospects. Jensen posted a 1.051 OPS (on-base plus slugging) in 43 games with the Omaha Storm Chasers.
The Royals have team captain Salvador Perez and backup Luke Maile currently on the roster at catcher. Now, Jensen will get an opportunity to learn from both down the stretch. Additionally, Jensen can give each some rest in the final month.
KC will also reinstate top slugger Jac Caglianone from the 10-day injured list. He finished a rehab assignment due to a left hamstring strain. On the pitching side, the Royals will promote right-hander Luinder Avila from Triple-A Omaha.
Adding three players will necessitate another roster move. The Royals will need to decide which player will be demoted to make room. Also, Jensen will need to be added to the 40-man roster ahead of Tuesday’s game.

The Royals can keep 28 players on the active roster beginning on Monday.
Caglianone was likely to return during the homestand. Prior to Sunday’s action, Caglianone hit .385 with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 16 rehab games. He struck out 11 times and drew seven walks.
And there were special highlights. Caglianone hit a 451-foot home run on Saturday and is showing signs of improvement at the plate. However, the real test will come at the big-league level against top pitchers.
The Royals also have a drastically different offense. The influx of veteran hitters gives Royals manager Matt Quatraro more options. Caglianone has raw power and can still be a key force in the lineup. Still, it remains to be seen if he will be afforded an everyday role upon return.

Avila made his MLB debut on Aug. 13 against the Washington Nationals. He tossed a scoreless inning and recorded a strikeout. The Royals bullpen has been taxed and Avila offers the club a fresh arm to utilize.
The Royals open a three-game series against the Angels on Tuesday. KC sits at 70-67 and remains three games behind the Seattle Mariners for the final AL wild-card spot.
