Ryan Lochte is seemingly sending a subtle message amid his financial drama with estranged wife Kayla Rae Reid.
In an Instagram Story on Wednesday, November 19, Lochte, 41, shared a screenshot of himself listening to Kanye West’s track “Gold Digger.” In the image, the line “oh, she’s a gold digger,” appeared in white text while the other lyrics were blurred in the background.
“Always good time to listen to the classics,” Lochte wrote.
News broke in June that Reid, 34, filed for divorce from Lochte after seven years of marriage. (The pair, who tied the knot in 2018, share son Caiden, 8, and daughters Liv, 6, and Georgia, 2.)
“Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection,” Reid wrote via Instagram at the time. “I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing and challenging seasons of my life. I’ve been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing — not from fresh, open wounds.”
Lochte, for his part, released his own statement, writing via social media, “Although this decision hasn’t been easy, I believe it’s the right step toward peace and well-being for us both. I remain committed to healing, growth and coparenting with care and respect as we move forward separately. Thank you to our family and friends for your continued support. It truly means a lot as we begin this new chapter.”
The divorce has since turned messy, with Reid claiming, in part, in an August court filing that she found Lochte inhaling nitrous oxide in front of the kids. She has asked the court to award her sole physical custody of their children. Lochte, for his part, denied the allegations in a statement to Us Weekly. The Olympian noted that he did struggle with substance abuse after his 2023 car accident, but never got high with his kids present.
“I am not denying that I used drugs in my home, but I adamantly deny ever using drugs in front of or around my children, and I have never driven them while intoxicated,” he said in August. “We all make mistakes in life. We are not defined by those mistakes, but by how we learn from them and the work we put in to overcome them. I am extremely sorry for hurting or disappointing anyone along the way. My focus now is on my recovery, on being the best father I can be, and on moving forward in a way that keeps my kids safe, supported, and loved.”

The pair’s financials have since made headlines, with Reid demanding that she be allowed to review Lochte’s records. An October filing revealed that Reid issued subpoenas asking that banks produce any records regarding any account held by Lochte or his business.
In her subpoena, Reid asked for all documents pertaining to accounts held by Ryan from January 2019 to now and any information on credit cards he took out. She also asked questions regarding any loans Lochte may have taken out, also sending a subpoena to Cash App to determine if the athlete was paid through the financial app.
A separate subpoena was sent to the company behind Cameo, with Reid inquiring about how many videos were commissioned from Lochte and the amount of compensation he earned.
