Fans of the band Limp Bizkit are shocked and mourning after learning of the death of bassist Sam Rivers. On October 18, a post on the band’s Instagram page announced Rivers’ death. He was 48.
After the news emerged, fans of Rivers and the band took to his last Instagram post to share their heartbreak. Rivers posted on October 17, just hours before his death.
“Nothing but love,” Rivers wrote in the caption of his last Instagram post. He added hashtags “Limp Bizkit,” “Limp Bizkit Style,” and “Limp Bizkit Family.”
The short video noted that the band’s album, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water was released exactly 25 years before his post, on October 17, 2000.
The video also included a reference to a concert scheduled for June 2026, as Limp Bizkit was slated to perform from June 10 to 14. According to a Facebook post from Rock Sound, Limp Bizkit had been added to the Rock for People lineup.
The festival is scheduled to take place in Hradec Králové, Czechia. Other bands performing include Gorillaz, Iron Maiden, Megadeath, Papa Roach, and others.
Rivers used The Cars song “Good Times Roll” to accompany the video, seemingly signaling he was celebrating both what the band had achieved and what they had on the horizon.
The comment section of Rivers’ last post was quickly flooded with notes from devastated fans.
“Love you, Man. Rest in peace, brother,” wrote fellow bassist Nate Navarro.
A fan wrote, “Sam, rest in peace. You are, for me, the best bass player I’ve ever seen in my life. I met LB in 2020 and was immediately stunned by his bass lines (especiallyu on Boiler). You’re an inspiration not only to me but to so many fans. It still hasn’t sunk in that you’re gone.”
“Rest in heaven, keep grooving on the stairs to the way up,” someone else commented.
In the Instagram post from the band announcing Rivers’ death, the wrote, “Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat.”
They added, “Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player — he was pure magic. The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound.”
As People noted, Rivers was one of the founding members of Limp Bizkit. He and singer Fred Durst met while he was working at a retail job. They initially performed with the group Malachi Sage, and in 1994, Limp Bizkit was formed.
Sam Rivers’ cause of death has not been released at this point.
