Are you ready, kids (and grownups)? It’s time to revisit Bikini Bottom and its underwater inhabitants with the first trailer The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.

Desperate to be a big guy, SpongeBob sets out to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs by following The Flying Dutchman – a mysterious swashbuckling ghost pirate – on a seafaring comedy-adventure that takes him to the deepest depths of the deep sea, where no Sponge has gone before.
Tom Kenny is back as the voice of the 21st century’s most popular toon character, as are the usual SpongeBob SquarePants suspects: Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick Star, Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy and Mr. Lawrence as Plankton. Also along for the swim are George Lopez, Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, Arturo Castro and Sherry Cola with Regina Hall and Mark Hamill.
This marks the first SpongeBob directorial outing for Derek Drymon, who has written for more than 275 episodes of the Nickelodeon toon series since its 1999 debut. It’s the fourth big-screen outing for the entire Bikini Bottom gang, following The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (2021), The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015), The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004). There also have been two spinoffs that streamed on Netflix: 2024’s Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie and this year’s Netflix pic Plankton: The Movie.
