The Kansas City Symphony has filed plans with the city for its planned new music venue near the Country Club Plaza that would have room for 4,600 concert-goers.
Symphony leadership says that the Kauffman Center will remain the orchestra’s home, but the new music venue would open up a funding source that would help sustain the symphony into the future.
The new venue, at 4901 Main St., would include a flat floor, a mezzanine and two balconies. It would focus on shows from contemporary music genres.
The city’s plan commission advanced the plans this week. The City Council will have the final say at a later date.
