Singer Yeison Jimenez has been killed in a tragic plane crash in Colombia, with authorities confirming that all six people on board the aircraft died. The light aircraft went down shortly after 4pm local time yesterday (Saturday) as it was travelling towards the city of Medellin, where the star was due to perform.
Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority said emergency services and National Police officers were sent to the scene, where the deaths of all occupants were confirmed. In a statement, officials said: “Following the arrival of emergency services and the National Police at the crash site, the deaths of all six occupants of the aircraft have been confirmed. Among the victims is the renowned popular music artist Yeison Jimenez.”
Yeison, who began performing at just seven years old, had spoken eerily about his fears in a podcast interview before his death revealing he had a recurring dream that he would die in a plane crash.
The aircraft involved in the tragedy belonged to his own company, YJ Company SAS, which he had proudly told fans he purchased in August 2022 as his career and finances soared.
His stepdaughter, Camila Jimenez, whom he had adopted after forming a relationship with his partner, Sonia Restrepo, paid a heartbreaking tribute online. She wrote on Instagram: “I love you dad. You don’t know how much it hurts me to see your videos and for you not to be here.”
Fans also shared their grief across social media.
One wrote: “God have you in his glory. Rest in peace. You were a great man, a brilliant artist and a loving father. I still can’t believe what’s happened.”
The regional government of Boyacá confirmed the identities of all six victims and issued a statement expressing its condolences.
It said: “We regret the tragic accident that claimed the life of the well-known singer Yeison Jimenez, one of the most representative figures of Colombian popular music.
“We also regret the deaths of the other victims of the accident, members of his team and crew.
